Care of Your Doumbek

All goat skin drums are affected by humidity. When the weather is wet and humid the skin soaks up the moisture, giving the drum a deeper bass sound. When the weather is dry the skin becomes dry, giving the drum a sharp ringing sound.

If you feel that the goat skin on your doumbek has to much moisture in it, find a heat source such as the sun, a fire, or your stove. Even the warmth of your hand can help dry out a goat skin. Its important not to heat your drum too fast. Take your time and let the skin dry slowly.

We suggest that you get a full circle bag for your doumbek. It will protect it from the changes in humidity. The less your goat skin changes from wet to dry the better. People who use bags for their doumbek get years more use out of their goat skins.

If your goat skin ever needs replacement we will
do it for approximately $25 depending on the size.
